I was going through my military medal collection and came across this medal/token. It was in a round blue/gold case that appears to be the original container. The medal/token is 2" in diameter and heavy. I think it may be some kind of Red Cross medal but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I would agree that it is a Medal and that it looks to be a Red Cross medal...I would write the Red Cross...I have a medal I don't know much about from a Town so I wrote the city...I don't know if they will email back or not...but its worth a try. Speedy
This appears to be a token issued by the "Red Cross of Belgium" that expresses "gratitude to blood givers." I would contact the Red Cross to see if you could put a date on it.
that’s a nice looking medal! I wonder if they have a series of them ( different years, countries, etc )
Here's the address for the Belgian Red Cross, French speaking community, taken directly from their website. Croix-Rouge de Belgique Communauté francophone Rue de Stalle, 96 - 1180 Bruxelles With a little hunting around you could probably find the address for communications in Flemish, the other official language, if you prefer to communicate that way.
Thanks Roy. I was able to find the Belgium Red Cross website. Of course I couldn't understand a single word! They had a list a mile long of email addresses so I just did the eeny-meeny-miny-moe thing and picked one. Haven't heard anything yet. I'll give them a couple more days and then maybe contact another name from the list. I just hope they know English!
Steve E,you could try sending Ageka a P.M. with your question in English. He could then translate it into Flemish & then ask the Belgian Red Cross for information about your medal. Aidan.
It occurs to me that you mentioned that you found this with your collection of WWII tokens. One of the things that came to mind when I looked at it is that it could be a token expressing appreciation for participation in a blood drive during the World War II era??
