Just happened to go to wal-mart for something the other day, and i asked the lady at the counter if she had any interesting coins (Halves, Dollars, etc) and sure enough she had a 1928G $2 bill. How much is this worth? It is a little wrinkled and has some small tears, but it is in overall a good condition. What do you think about it?
The treasurer whose signature is on that note, Georgia Neese Clark, became the first female treasurer of the United States when Truman appointed her to the position in 1949... since then, every treasurer has been female.
Nice Find! It is an awesome day when you can still find something like your two circulating around! I agree with the other threads and would place the value around $7-$10. I will often spend the older non collectible paper money just to see the look on someones face and perhaps entice them to look into our hobby.
I think it's a great find. You certainly don't see those in circulation that often. I worked at a bank for a year and I think I came across 4 or 5 of those in that time...and I dealt with a lot of money. I would say it's worth a few dollars over face value...I would say $5 or so. Definitely worth keeping.
Er... the current treasurer, Anna Escobedo Cabral, is definitely a woman. (You may be thinking of Hank Paulson, who is the Secretary of the Treasury, not the Treasurer. There has never been a female Secretary of Treasury up to this point, but every Treasurer since Georgia Clark has been female.) Here's a brief bio of her, from the US Department of the Treasury's website: http://www.treas.gov/organization/bios/cabral-e.html
