I'd like you all to know that I refrained from going to Liechtenstein despite my infatuation with those micro-states. I refrained mostly because I've only one Liechtenstein. So, off to France! King Chuck the Tenth - the Bourbon restoration after Napoleon wreaked havoc all over Europe and Africa. An 1828 five-francs (KM 728.12).
Back to Britain. Charles II halfpenny - 1675 over 3 over 2 (1675/3/2). Previously in a NGC 65 slab dated 1673. That grade somewhat generous looking at the reverse, but still an attractive example of what is a rare type in high grade. To put the rarities into context, when the mint struck the new copper coinage in 1672, four of the presses were making farthings and one halfpennies.
Thanks. It's a bit of a monoculture however as most are British. Maybe someone would like to cross the Atlantic and get us out of this European loop or maybe get to Africa somehow? I can't help. In the interim however, a Commonwealth halfpenny - the last silver halfpenny struck in Britain prior to the milled copper coinage seen a few posts up this page.
It's a long way but seems to just miss west Africa. South Africa 1929 sovereign struck at the Pretoria mint.
Groovy coins! Thanks for sharing! From Botswana we go to Namibia with this here 2012 five-dollar piece (KM 5).
I had to look carefully to see that Namibia was adjacent to Zimbabwe! It sure does at that narrow strip at the northeast. Next stop, Zambia! A 1964 six pence coin (KM 1).
