Now I think I've heard it all. Mike the Mouth is now selling Certified MS69 2020 (P) Distinctive Obv/Rev Die Polish Silver Eagles in MS69 grade for $199.95 each + S&H. Of course, you can't get a coin that has both obverse & reverse distinctive die polish errors, so if you want an obverse 'error' and a reverse 'error', you've gotta spend over $400 for the pair. According to Mike these ASE dies have been over polished, or extra polish left on the dies, causing these distinctive 'marks' on these Philadelphia emergency struck coins that look like scratches, but are not. And apparently that's what makes them worth so much money.
Well, its true that they exhibit die polish. That does not make them worth a single cent more, in my opinion.
I'm more disturbed by the TPG's helping to milk the gullible. They're becoming so laughable they're digging their own grave.
You can collect coins or labels. You can actually have something meaningful and exceptional or you can pretend that you have something special. To me the coin speaks for itself and doesn't need support from a Snake Oil salesman. And, there is only one First Strike and the US Mint keeps it in their vault. What label will you buy tomorrow?
Mike is a really smart man and he knows a lot about the hobby. I will never understand why he went to selling this type of stuff. I don't see it as a good thing for the hobby. He could have used his skills for better things. I would have to be really drunk to buy from him.
There is not enough booze in the cabinet for me to get that drunk, did i mention the booze cabinet ATM is full! LOL!
No they aren't. Coin could be a perfectly normal ASE and not even a P and it's worth more than that. These comments are just silly chest pounding at best.
As we all know, it is worth what someone is willing to pay, and I wouldn't pay more than 1¢ over melt. And leave my chest alone, I have COPD. LOL
Certainly hope your COPD stays under control and best of health in the future. That said ASEs have very standardized values, they aren't worth what someone is willing to pay they're worth the range the market says they are. No ASE is worth 1C over melt
I ordered the 2020-P in ms69 because it was on sale and I had a 15% off code and I got one they call a weak strike error. I'm sure you've probably seen one and I've definitely got other old coins with weak strikes but this silver eagle is struke quite well it just looks to have circular residue around both sides of the coin. Pretty cool I guess since I didn't pay much got it but how so many got through pcgs with such high grades and with no mention of the error is odd. NGC actually recognized the error prior to them being sent out and made a label for them. I think pcgs took the gamble you'd send it back to them to get the error label so they could get you twice on one coin
