Good day everyone! Sure could use some help with this one. Looks like maybe the planchet 20200716_155159.jpg 20200716_155315.jpg broke when struck causing the distortion? Of course I'm just quessing. Would love to hear what the Pro's think. Thanks

Two die cracks and what appears to be RPM. Wait for other opinions.

Where are you exactly asking about? If you are referring to the OF etc. on the reverse, it’s caused by a filled die or weak strike. Very common on LMC.

I was asking about the ica in America, the crack just after the A, and the protutions toward the rim on each side of the memorial. Should have clarified myself. Sorry.

It all appears to be from die deterioration. JMHO

I also observed repetitive marks on the obverse between Lincolns face and the rim which correspond to the Ica and die crack on the reverse. Could a deteriated reverse die have caused this? Thanks.

No it wouldn’t. From your posted picture, all I can see is PMD on the obverse. Sorry.

I still think you have a RPM, Repunched Mint Mark. Can you get a clearer closeup on the mint mark?

The coin is in my desk at work. I will try to find the time in the morning to take better photos but I think you will not find this variety listed as yet. Thanks gentlemen!

The reverse looks like a lamination but it's since and it all could be from the copper coating. The mintmark looks like a die chip to me but it's my bedtime.

These sorry copper plated cents are horrible for the copper plating to swell up . This is caused by the zinc core swelling up and pushing the copper up. Around the letters and numbers are the most common places but it can happen anywhere on the zinc cents.

That makes perfect sense! Two entirely differant rates of expansion and contraction. Thanks for the info.

It's actually corrosion, also referred to as "zinc rot". If the thin copper plating is breached, the zinc underneath can start to corrode, much like rust on a scratched car fender. This is also common around the mintmarks of 80s zinc cents. Sometimes the blisters can look like the coin a repunched mm

That one was a warm up. This one came in the same roll with several others. I see lettering on the obverse rim which is flat but not overly worn it seems. 20200717_173210.jpg 20200717_173050.jpg

Which part of the rim are we supposed to be looking at?

All of it on obverse side. Looks like maybe vbd repeated. All along the base of the bust looks odd. On the rim and the bust itself. Looks like a tree sprouted at the bottom center and is growing up to the bowtie

It is a badly damaged copper plated yucky zinc cent. I have never liked a zinc cent. This has been a disaster for our cent coins. I have seen them almost totally rot away so bad that they were not even spendable.
