It might seem hard to believe but today was the first day that I found a 2005 Jefferson/Buffalo nickel in circulation. And also the third time I've found a Jefferson/Ocean View nickel. These aren't low mintage by any means but those two just don't seem to be circulating around here.

I get plenty of 2004s and 2006s, just not any 2005s.

You know, I don't see them that often either. They aren't rare or anything...but just don't seem to get them in change regularly.

People put them away. Also there are a LOT of nickels.

How many BiCentential Quarters have you ever seen in circulation!

I actually see plenty of those nickels! Not the oceanview one's so much, but those bison's I see plenty of.

Actually, quite a few, comparatively. I just took a look in my change jar, where I put my pocket change every day. In three handsfull of coins I pulled out there were four bicentenials.

Bicentennials always circulated. But westward nickels not so much. it's the new obverse Jeffersons that don't circulate. Has anyone seen any '08s? I haven't seen one. Nor any '07s since early last year.

come to think of it, I've seen very few '08 pennies either.

  9. The best thing about this is that you are looking at your pocket change. That is a very good thing. I remember in the 80's, I used to find 40% Silver Kennedy Halves all the time and the occassional near dateless buffalo nickel.
Looking through your pocket change is a good trend for any collector. Keep it up.

I just bought an '08 nickel uncirculated. I didn't realize that they would be keeping the new obverse with "liberty" script. I always just assumed that it would go back to the old obverse.

FWIW your change jar isn't in circulation. At the Pharmacy I haven't seen a Bicentennial anything in over a year at least.

Got a roll of them from the bank yesterday, and nearly every day actually.

It's a transition stage, the same as coins in your pocket that you got yesterday and plan to spend tomorrow. It'll just be a longer period between Yesterday and Tomorrow.

Gotcha I collect change so fast that anything in the jar just stays there until ... until ...

well, we have a dozen jars so far...

Did you ask for new 2008's or just any used rollof nickels? I don't think that I've seen '07 or o8's yet.
2008 cents are extremely common here. zg

No they're not. The new obverse is permanent.

I just get them from the manager and stick them in the register.

I think your right. I thought I read that they were making a switch in 2010 and improving the Monticello reverse but I've now searched everywhere for the announcement and can find nothing/
