I checked "The Complete Guide to Barber Half Dollars" by David Lawrence and "The Authoritative Reference on Barber Half Dollars" by Kevin Flynn. Neither of them mention a reverse hub change for the half dollar. Lawrence states that Breen claimed changes in hubs in 1908 and 1912, but Lawrence was unable to verify them. Interesting find.
I know it is an old post - but Frank you have got to straighten some of those halves - makes my ocd kick in. I only have a few.
Thanks for the research. I forwarded a few of my images to BCCS illustrating this possible design change and its transition in 1904 a couple of weeks ago. I'll leave it to the experts to verify and make the determination of significance.
Sorry late to the game. One of the few examples that I own, a 1908 25c. These have been growing on me lately so there likely will be more
My prettiest Barber proof... 1901 PR65 courtesy of Pinnacle Rarities (as fine and honest a dealer as there ever was)
Here are my first two Barber purchases (besides my halves). I really like these, and although they may be in less than ideal condition, they are fun to look at.
