Looking at the original listing, I'm wondering why you think thee is a 'huge' difference between the seller's pics and what you see in-hand. Yes, the photos are 'juiced', but looking at the magnified images by the seller, I can see every mark and imperfection that are clear(er) in your images. In any case, seller disclosed cleaned and AT'd, but does have a 30 day no questions asked return policy, with free return shipping. Send it back, and use the time you're waiting for your money to practice examining seller photos on ebay. There is an old thread somewhere in here about a certain extraordinarily popular ebay seller that juices there photos, and how the coin in hand vs images compares, as well as how to read the online photos. Very helpful. One thing I do is totally ignore all wording in a title except the year/MM/series, unless it's slabbed.
Their verbiage doesn't make any sense at all. They say it's a very nice coin, a very nice coin is not a cleaned coin! The pics were juiced, I think they don't have a choice but to return your money! good luck!!
Return the coin. If you have issues with the seller, file a case and eBay will side with you 99% of the time, after all, buyers are more important to their bottom line than sellers. I know from experience.
Earlier this month I won a coin from the same dealer as you. I just noticed in the description, it said cleaned and artificially toned. What he coin cost isn't even worth the hassle of returning it. For what it is, it's not a bad looking coin. I sniped it in the last seconds without reading the description. Karma I guess.
I was about to say that too, but the triple-dot reeding marks in the field just above and between Stars 1 & 2 indicate that it is indeed the same coin. Just wildly divergent in the two different sets of photos. Definitely return it.
Making a "spur of the moment decision" is, generally, a bad decision, at least it has been for me in most instances. "Look before you leap" is a good idiom to keep in mind when faced with a quick decision.
Same coin gouge under wing is on both. Tone mark on the reverse between "A" and "T" at 12 oclock - Contrast and brightness distract you from the harsh cleaning Return it as, item not as described, as a picture is part of the description and has been juiced to purposely mislead the buyer.
Wow, if the coin in both photos is the same, and i think it is, talk about some real trick photography.
Agreed. I have received a few Morgans that are not the coin in the seller's photos and returned nearly all of them. On the other hand, I am watching a certain HTF Morgan, one which the seller has this in his description: I'm probably going to put this seller on my favorite list of sellers for his honesty, and have a snipe set up for about 10% of a quality coin of this date's value. The photo doesn't show a bad looking coin, and certainly not one with flagrantly grainy surfaces. So, why be honest in your description but post an alternate photo? That's my theory.
I disagree. What can a collector rely on? I would say ANA standards. In the ANA standards, it clearly states Gem is a defined term, better than MS63. I understand sales puffery, and they could have said "beautiful BU" "spectacular" or many other sales puffery words, but choice BU and gem BU have definitions. Either way, I would say the seller abusing the pictures of the actual coin is enough to return, as is the fact that I do not think that coin is BU, cleaned or not.
They are not the same coin and the TPG would not be MS-65. The large scratch on the face and obvious bad cleaning gives it away. Send it back!
After reading lordmacorvan’s post I had to edit my response that the OP’s photos show two different coins. Thank you for the correction/education. Edited to clarify: What I’m was trying to say is I agree that it is the same coin.
Look again at that reeding mark in the field above Stars 1 & 2, y'all. And also the darker speck between A and T in STATES, which @jgrinz pointed out. It is definitely the same coin, though one could be forgiven for thinking otherwise at a casual glance. The seller's images must have been heavily manipulated somehow.
Enlarged, side by side comparison shows that it is definitely the same coin. They photographed it to hide the rough surface. It is one ugly Morgan and I'd return it for a full refund and not trust the photos of that seller again.
