I used a Dremel tool to make these coins fit into the Capital plastic holder. When you do this type of work yourself, be sure to use the Dremel on the plastic holder, not the coins. If you have ever needed to modify a holder to fit your coins, post the ideas here. Very best regards, collect89
Dremel tool makes coins seeable too This was one messed up coin before I took the dremel tool and bon ami to it. I know it isn't the proper thing to do, but I just had to see what was under all the gunk and corrosion. jeankay
I trim my dogs nails with a dremel... The wonders that a dremel can do. And the thing is the dogs like it better the nail clippers.
When I happened upon this thread I feared the worst....glad it was the holder and not the coins (LOL).
Nice coins and great job with the Dremel. I will have to keep this option in mind if I ever switch over to the Capital Holders.
Now that you've cleaned it up, what are those two rectangles behind Lincoln's neck? An artifact of lighting, damage from the Dremel or ?? It looks like a clashed die but there's nothing on the reverse side in that position that would make an image like that. Hmmmm
Why not use the Dremel with a grinding stone on the coins and make the coins fit into any slot? Think about that. You could grind off enough of a Quarter to fit into Nickel slots. :goof: I use mine to clean my teeth. No really I use one to open those plastic slabs though.
Actually, now that I've taken a closer look, those ARE die clash marks. The marks are the spaces between the 2nd and 3rd, and the 3rd and 4th columns on the left side of the memorial. The little notch in the one rectangle corresponds to the top of the finial on the steps of the memorial. I'm not sure about the line at the left of the date. If it's in the plastic of the holder then OK. If not, it could be a clash corresponding to the top right edge of the memorial.
