My OP was a serious question. She has what appears to be an ancient Greek gold coin on her chain. I don't recognize the type, but Greek coins are not my specialty. Curious whether it may be a genuine ancient coin or just a fantasy piece (pun intended).
Some research reveals: "She accessorized her plunging top with a vintage Van Cleef and Arpels Virgo Zodiac pendant from the Seventies, featuring a a woman standing next to a unicorn, and a wide-brimmed straw hat." I'd never heard of Betty Draper (or January Jones) before - this group is such an education ATB, Aidan. P.S. She appears to like that pendant, it's in several photos
I think the photo' has been mirrored - scroll down and you'll see the pendant. https://www.vancleefarpels.com/ru/en/nanosites/stories/zodiacs.html At least an ancient coin wasn't holed to make it! ATB, Aidan.
I've done further research. The Van Cleef & Arpels zodiac pendant series is amusing to a collector of ancient coins. Their gold version of an Aspendos stater represents Gemini (all these years, I thought those guys were wrestlers!). These zodiac pendants are also very expensive: $6,000-15,000 depending on the subject (and maybe the vintage). It might be cheaper to buy a genuine, holed or mounted gold stater!
I've got a Carthaginian stater with a horse that could tooled into a nice unicorn for the right price ATB, Aidan.
I've never spent anything close to that much on either a coin or a piece of jewelry, and have trouble imagining that I ever would!
I don't believe that for a second.......pretty girl, nice figure, and you're looking at a medal or a coin? Are you human? A full figure of a damsel most extrainaire, and you're spying a piece of metal.......no wonder the population figures are down........
