I am trying out a new scope, and a little disappointed. The images are clear until you take a a picture. So sorry for that. That said look at the notching and spread on all the lettering on the obverse. Correct me if I am wrong.
Here are some close up images I'm almost embarrassed to post. I will figure this scope out or throw it away, either way I win...
You’re right, they are bad but it appears to be early DDD by your pictures. I’d say MD but it’s not exactly flat and shelflike. Don’t take that for the gospel... better pics may prove different. Use your phone and crop. Probably would be better.
I'm thinking that maybe the microscope is adjusted up too high and distorting the images to make it look like doubling. Then maybe I'm wrong . If these images do look like this under a 10x lens then the coin could possible show triple doubling.Strange thing is in the op's super enlarged photos of the entire coin it looks plain normal. It would need to be looked at in hand by someone that knows errors and varieties to be 100% for sure what it is IMO.
A microscope is not a good tool to use for searching for error and varieties IMO. They can be so confusing unless adjusted right.
I think its a trick of the light, I'm assuming you're using a USB scope of some sort, for some reason the lighting on those can be confusing when looking for doubling.
I use a 10x loop and the notching jumped out at me that's when i put it under the scope. I agree the lighting makes it look different.
I don’t think so. DD on booth sides of a letter make me queston. This picture taking is so crazy tuff stuff
That’s about the only avenue I got left cuz @furryfrog02 sent me a cent - 1972 P DD #3 (cuz Mr. Frog is a gem). But I just can’t see it. My lost. I would (maybe) enjoy roll searching more if I could see better
