I may have posted parts of this set before, but I got some better pics tonight and thought I'd share:
Step 2 is sending the 1943-S and the 1944-D to NGC for grading and then selling both of them to me for 10X+ bid so that you can continue your search for toned war nickels very well funded. PS, I am not kidding. My god that is one of the most beautiful sets I have ever seen and I that includes my set (see below). Look at my pitiful 43-S. It is an absolute dog next to yours. And your 44-D is just out of this world.
You wish you could get those for 10x bid. I bought them from a dealer at the Spring 2008 MSNS show. I had massive offers before I left that day.
I didn't say 10X bid, I said 10X+ bid. You have no idea how high I will go until you try. If that 43-S grades at MS66*, I would pay big bucks.
Thanks! My 45's are almost unimprovable (all MS67*). My 44's are also top notch, but the 44-P is an MS66*. I love my 42-S and would not upgrade it unless a fantastic specimen appeared. However my 43-S is the ugly duckling of the group and I need to replace it with a stunner MS66* or better for my registry set. I also need to find a beautiful 1942-P and the ever elusive 1943/2-P for completion. I have been looking for a suitable candidate for inclusion (1942-P and 1943-S) and can't find one anywhere. I know that patience is a key, but I can't even find a moderately attractive toned example for either date in the mean time.
I love the toning on your 43-P Lehigh! Would you post a larger pic of that one? I love the blue and gold toning.
That's the idea! It's a fantastic series, with a lot of dedicated collectors. Get in the market now before too many other people catch on! If you do decide you're interested, let me know, and I can provide you with a ton of great resources.
Sure, this is not the coin people usually want to see, but your request is my demand. It is extremely unusual and surprisingly attractive.
I really love how the strong orange and gold colors look near the rim right over "In God" and how it tapers into a faint blue. As much as I like toned coins, I really like them when they are toned off to the side and around the rim...that way the color doesn't "get in the way" of the coins design. Now, there are some amazing fully toned coins that I love...but typically I like the toning near the edge. In this case, I just love the strong gold and soft blue.
