1904 (Meiji 37) Imperial Japan One Yen Ex PCGS MS-61 This coin currently resides in my Dansco Japan Type album.
Very beautiful piece. What's caught my eye are the 416 / 900 which are similar to late 19th century US trade dollars (420 grains/900 fine). I wonder if these yen coins saw lots of international trade/use?
From what I understand these coins also saw extensive circulation outside of Japan especially in China. Japan also minted a series of Trade dollars from 1875 to 1877. Moreover, it is not uncommon for silver One Yen coins of the period to be heavily chop marked like the example below.
Arguably the most beautiful GB coin ever struck, the 1847 Gothic Crown (Undecimo edge and Plain edge). This is the much rarer plain edge (.9999 pure silver) version: I liked the way the toning highlights the design details.
Unfortunately not the 1939 coin........that would cost 7 figures IF one ever existed in this condition (PR70DCAM), which it doesn't. This the 2019 (80th anniversary) version quintuple sovereign (5 pound) struck by Alderney using the same image as William Wyon's masterpiece
Before I head off to work.... Yes, the 1839 AV 5 Pounds is very $$$$$$$$! Your 2019 version is proof that modern mints can produce beautifull coins/ when they keep the original design.....not modernize it.
The Japanese dragon Yen remains one of my absolutely favorite designs ever pressed into metal. If only the type 1s weren't so pricey. Meiji36 明治三十六年 (1903) NGC MS 61 Taisho3 大正三年 (1914) NGC MS64 - the only year to feature the Emperor Taisho The elaborate Arabic calligraphy of Saudi Arabian Rials also makes for some good brain stimulation. 1374 ١٣٧٤ (1954) 1/4 Rial NGC MS65+
Taylor restrike pattern copper halfpenny P1169. Get the light at the right angle and it is like an oil painting. As per the ticket, a gift from C W Peck to his fellow numismatist the Rev. E Rogers, Dean of Tewkesbury Abbey.
