Hi all, When coin hunting some rolls from the bank, I received 4 rolls with only 2020 American Samoa Quarters from the Philadelphia mint. Many of the coins have damage (indent) to the face resulting in a Blind Bat look. I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about these quarters. Is it a strike through or post mint damage? Is it common to find a series of damaged coins like this? If it is a strike through, I think what was on the die was originally larger and as more coins were struck, bits of the gunk fell off and so the coins became less damaged as time went on.
Looks like a strike-through to me. I've seen several examples of the 2020 Bats showing some sort of strike through. Pretty cool. Wish I could get a roll of them...or any other 2020 coin...at my bank.
Congrats on a nice find. Judging from the black grease residue on your coins they are most likely struck thru grease or something else and all of them are from the same die. Back when I was roll searching I found some really good error and variety coins from new bank rolls. Usually when a new roll has a good keeper in it there will be more of the same. I learned this years ago and now have hundreds of coins from the same dies. I have a lot of different types of error and varieties I found roll searching.
Almost all of those coins for every state have errors ...u just have to look at every single one...but once I start findin the errors 4 each mint...u will see the pattern
That's the first I've seen that were THAT bad though...most of the errors are either in the writin or George Washington's face/hair but there are quite a few with errors on reverse side as well
