coinboughtlarissaebay2.jpg coinboughtlarissaebay1.jpg I usually do not purchase a coin from ebay w/o a provenance, a known dealer or guarantee but this I decided was worth the gamble. It has a complete legend and although the obverse is very porous or pitted it has "the plant" also on the reverse and looked good to me. The cost was only in the middle double digits anyway. What do you think? I checked the fake reports and found none like it. Also the ebay dealer was not on the notorious fake list either.

I see nothing wrong with your coin OP. I have a soft spot for these, my first ancient coin was a pretty VF with emerald patina.

Wow- love the toning. So this Lorber hoard i guess I need to research the basic details. I see these attributions on many of them. Are all these coins from this hoard documented?

It took me a lot of years before I got a coin of larissa. I was targeting mid to high end and always lost...I surprisingly got this at open price in CNG, I guess nobody wanted it because of the tail being off flan. The coin however really stands out in a tray full of coins because of the high relief and toning.

Lorber's study is based on one unpublished hoard. You can find the paper here.

Your coins seems to have lots of raised spots of metal, especially on the reverse. Although the images are rather blurry, I I have my doubts about the authenticity.

I would wait and buy a Larissa drachm from a trusted seller, perhaps on VCoins or MA Shops. You might also find one as an unsold after-auction lot.

If you bought this coin on eBay, you can return it even if the sell does not accept returns. i would consider that option.
