so thats PMD? why isn't the back and the front the same? also the last zero in 2000 is still present how is that possible with a gauge that deep? wouldn't have the 0 have been gone if it was scraped off? I don't understand how the lettering and the bottom part of man on the bottom is still there.
The first thing you must keep in mind when trying to determine what caused the damage is that it could have been anything and the only person who would know for sure what happened would be the fool who did it. It doesn't look like the reverse was scraped off. If I were to hazard a guess, the coin was placed on some oddly formed piece of steel while a tool with a chiseled edge was hammered into the obverse. Don't waste your time trying to figure out what caused it. Just spend it! ~ Chris
Yep, whatever hit the obverse had a sharp edge while the reverse was against a flat edge, that's all.
