Curious, how much was this role?

Ok i'm ashamed to say I have bought a good amount of unsearched rolls on ebay.
I haven't been really ripped off, just the one time that the featured end coin was suppose to be a 10S pennie. This was after 10 or so purchased from this seller who never made good on my on this one complaint to him..
I'm sure the seller easily made anywhere from $3 to $15 profit on each roll but some coins where ok and just enough to make me happy. I learned alot and do not buy un opened unsearched rolls anymore. This one seller is the one who keeps finding these amazing treasures at different places, yet ALL of the rolls are wrapped with cut pieces of brown paper bags:rolleyes: I think some here are familure with him..

Iv'e also seen patterns of sellers. One in mind that I did buy from alot I believe 40% to 50% that these are old rolled coins..
All of these rolls seem to have the exact era dates and grade. Mostly 30's in one but all dark color but very nice as VF to XF in one same branch bank, some BU rolls which are truly BU and all in the 40's to 50'on another bank branch for example.. Yup, I know bank labeled rolls doesn't mean real but still believe a little some are true on this one sight.
Now he also sells a 1000 wheat cent bag that he just throws in a bag because he has no time to sort LOL!
In this 1000 pennie bag I found a sprinkling of those nice 30's and BU 40's and 50's plus some Merc dimes and Lib quarters and buffalo nickels. These Merc's and Lib quarters Buffalo nickels are also rolls he sells. He's opening up these rolls and making a " tossed salad" type of bag.
Same with his 2 roll bank box of wheats that are his cheapest option.
Purchased 2 times and both times one of the rolls had a IH and a 26S pennie.
If anyone remembers the old newspaper rolled pennie's from one ebay seller with the brand new white news paper that was suppose to be from the days of WW2.
I felt naughty and bid $1 and then $2.
He actually sent me a message and said don't I have anything better to do.. I wanted to keep going on this weasel but didn't want ebay to warn me. Even though bidding low isn't a crime. He got some bad feedback anyways from those faked rolls.

Agreed - this is the secret to selling mystery penny rolls online:

It was a fine auction with some fine coins. With nine days left, the bidding had already gone up to $50. It is unfortunate the seller was spooked.

I learned my lesson years ago not to buy unsearched rolls. Remember the old saying "There is no such thing as a free lunch." This is very true with unsearched rolls. Be safe not sorry!

Ah, but there are free lunches on eBay. They're just few and far between, and hard to spot amid all the overpriced and spoiled lunches.

It is VERY easy to find unsearched coins. You won't find them on ebay or at estate sales (who buy nearly all of their coins in bulk from local coin shops). Sit down, use your common sense to solve that mystery and do it while other folks bitch about things. Solve it publicly and not one soul will be grateful but they will all be fishing in your spot.

Well, as several have noted, it looks like eBay pulled the listing.

There is a rule on eBay that you can't really sell "grab bags" with unknown contents. That must have happened here since the seller most certainly would be able to easily ascertain what's in the roll. I think it may come too close to gambling in eBay's eyes. That doesn't really explain "unsearched" crimped rolls. Somehow those do seem ok with eBay. Perhaps there is some intrinsic value in the "sealed" roll.

I still look for that needle is a haystack. I'm the guy who buys sealed GSA Morgans (lost money) and other tightly wrapped rolls (had some fun finds, but never any treasures). I keep thinking I'll learn my lesson. :)

The listing is back! https://ebay.us/YDkOoK but I think this is a different username.

With all the coins he has for sale, it's very possible he's a member here. Maybe I will email and ask him to unscrew the cap and take a pic of the obverse.

It doesn't say unsearched anymore. He says that they come from a pet free environment. So I guess they didn't get pee'd on by his cat or dog.

The coin seems very pitted. If it is real, it's around $100 coin and the roll (50 coins?) has to sell in the $150+ area.
The S seems to be in the right location. (Slightly tilted, off center.) It's currently at $76. Perhaps the obverse is scratched up and he's getting rid of it for more than it is worth. It's not a 1909 as he had to put the roll together, and put the reverse 1908-S on the end.

I didn't realize there were 6 days to go in the auction.
I can't buy a coin like this (I retract my earlier statement, as the auction was pulled and I did not see the coin, I believe it is genuine/details) without seeing the obverse.
I believe this will generate some speculators. Final price in the $150 range for the roll. I doubt there is nothing in the roll but beat up Indian heads. However, 1 decent date, and 1 decent condition coin might be salted in there in addition to the ender, to keep the price fair and for future auctions to be regarded as legit.

I'm still stuck on the fact that it's a clear tube with a screw-cap! This feels like a carnival midway game. It's kinda fun to play, but the games are rigged in favor of the carnie, and even if there is a winner, it's not anything of quality.

Personally, I think this is shady.

Related question: With all of these old "crimped" bank rolls... those have been searched, right? I'm assuming that someone is either re-crimping them, or possible purchasing old stock wrappers and re-wrapping them, right?
