The baseball one was also the first curved US coin - it was original. This is the 3rd iteration; same old, same old..
Yep, for the Baseball it was something new and unique. Now they are operating under the idea "if something worked well keep doing it until it stops working".
That's certainly true, but it's also a major US sport and a very good design would have had much stronger sale numbers
Looking for advice -- My NBA coins arrived and I'm planning on sending out to PCGS tomorrow. For rounded coins, should I still place them in 2.5x2.5 flaps, or leave in Mint issued capsules? Wondering if anybody submitted 2014 Baseball HoF or 2019 Apollo coins.
For anybody who is curious - I spoke with PCGS customer service and they told me that coins can be submitted in their original Mint packaging. This was news to me since their website makes it sound like submissions can only arrive in 2.5x2.5 flips... good to know.
I'm curious (as an innocent bystander) when these will start showing up in the secondary market. You could only buy this slab at the HOF in Springfield - there can't be too many, can there?. On June 4, the Hall of Fame will be hosting a small ceremony where fans can purchase the coins in limited quantity in accordance with the Mint’s household limits. These coins are from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Private Collection and will receive an additional designation of “June 4th Courtside Release – First Day of Issue.” Since United States Mint retail store locations are currently closed, the Hall of Fame is the only place in the world you can physically buy the coin on the release day.
Interesting @LakeEffect - I was wondering about FDOI for these. I'd imagine there'd be somebody out there who would be interested in specifically this 'Courtside' label.

Right, but does yours have the "Naismith Private Collection / Courtside Release" pedigree? That's the one I'm talking about.
So, anybody care to report on their Naismith HOF coins? Not a buyer but always curious about eye-appeal, quality, packaging, etc.
The mint is really going off the deep end with their commemorative coins. Who in their right mind would spend over $600 for a 1/10 ounce gold coin. I believe the 1 ounce proof silver is over $70.
Still waiting on mine from PCGS. Hoping for 70s across the board.. *fingers crossed* ~1/4 ounce of gold, not 1/10 Having said that, I'll admit that I agree with you; I still think this is a rather steep price for a rather mediocre design.
