Sellers photo of this Galerius .. Arrived today and it is quite stunning in hand. So - over exposed photo or the coin has been darkened by an artificial patina? If the patina is applied why not take a better photo? What do you think? I am very happy with the coin in hand... its a keeper!
I see more and more collectors making short video clips of their coins. How great this technology has impacted this hobby and field of historical knowledge. Also great coin, extraordinary condition.
Looks great. No idea, but you're right, it doesn't make sense to mess with the coin but not the photograph. I bought one recently where it looked from the photo that the coin's patina had a lot of imperfections. I asked the dealer about it and they said it was a poor photo, which it did indeed turn out to be.
@Clavdivs.....Super looking coin! Has it been waxed?....Really like this idea of a short vid to demonstrate the coin.....Here's my Galerius.. Galerius Maximianus as Caesar AE Follis minted 297 AD....11,46 g. 25 mm. Obv: GAL VAL MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES. Laureate Head right Rev: GENIO POPVLI ROMANI/ (crescent)/ D// ANT. Genius standing left, holding cornucopiae and patera. RIC VI 49b Antioch From an old collection formed in the 1920s. Ex Münzhandlung Kallai, Vienna.
I like the darker tone of the coin in hand much more than the tone of the coin in the seller's photo. That's a beautiful look! What I like about a video clip of a coin is you get to turn it in the light so people can see it lit from many angles and get a real feel for the coin, rather than the single lighting in a photo that too often ends up looking nothing like the coin in hand
Nice video I've seen folks doing that in the Facebook Ancient and Medieval Group more frequently. Very attractive coin with a near flawless strike and flan.
That IS a superb coin! I think the photo was just washed out and overly light. It all looks great to me! Congrats on a great addition!
That's a beauty! Nice video too. By the way, the garden has changed color since last time. You should water it. And weren't you supposed to wear a Michael Jackson's glove ? This is my only Galerius :
Nice - same issue with me... here is my recently purchased Constantius I.. with a cat interlude... The rest of the family also yawn when I show them my coins....
Terrific coin! A very nice strike on a wonderfully broad flan. Your video really shows off the attractive dark leather colour of the coin too.
While the coin is quite nice, I wish there were an easy way to show it with a plain background and maintain constant distance and focus throughout. I have tried a couple ways and failed. I wonder it the super black paint TIF once showed here might be the answer.
