The Eagle has landed Absolutely. Even with my fondness for eagle images I'll admit the reverse of the 25¢ is a bit tired. The Kennedy is The Great Seal I believe. It's a strong image in my opinion. I'm sure everyone is familiar with it but I'll attach it anyhow. The reverse of the Ike I think is another timeless image. How can you not like an eagle swooping in for a landing on the moon?
I like Ikes but that Eagle looks like it came out of Hanna Barabara Animation Studios along with Dino and Bam Bam Ruben
Heh heh, touche Ruben. My Harryhausen comment comes back to haunt me. I can't find fault with this one, I think it's timeless.
At first I didn't like it but it has grown on my. I would like a drawing of this instead if I was going to stick with Eagles. BTW this is a Federal Public Domain Image...
Nice soaring eagle. Personal tastes differ of course. I'll leave my self wide open on this image. I don't like the obverse at all, never did , never will. The image looks static or wooden to me. The reverse is super, a real corker of an image. A vigilant eagle! A defender of freedom.
I think the Indian here is Curious Georges friend, but still its a nice coin. In any event, all the worlds creativity didn't end in 1932 with the Washington Quarter and all symbolism of American isn't in an eagle and we need something NEW. Ruben
Yeah, I know...it's Coin Talk Despite it's historical importance I don't think the Beaver will ever appear on US coinage, especially circulating issues. The Canadian connection is too strong. The Beaver is on the Canadian 5¢ piece I think. Veering wildly off topic I often wonder why US stamps have subjects that seem trivial, at least to me. I realize anybody can submit an idea / design to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee. ""The Committee's primary goal is to select subjects of broad national interest"" ""that are both interesting and educational."" ""the committee records and responds to as many as 50,000 inquiries received annually recommending stamp subjects and designs."" With all the second guessing and dissatisfaction with coin designs I don't recall any complaints concerning stamp issues. Attached are two older stamps I have in my collection. Personally I think these designs would be a good choice on US circulating coinage. The details would be difficult to capture on smaller coins. Halves and dollars would be large enough to capture the details. Denis
Hey Denis.... I like the train. I liked the hobo nickel train I saw before as well. The thing about stamps are that they have value and there are millions of stamp designs. My favorite is Green Lantern FWIW. Coins represent the financial trust of the nation, and for that reason they are more careful about design, especially without silver. Ruben
I would like to see them update the coins a bit more often, it's getting ridiculous, the Roosevelt Dime has been around longer than any other dime, the Quarter was unchanged for longer than any other quarter, ditto the Jefferson Nickel. We need a new Dime, I suggest they bring back, for 5-10 years at a clip, vintage dime designs. I mean, how nice would a Bust dime be?
No, I disagree. We need new designs and not recycled ones. Aside which I believe that if they brought back the bust the public would be very upset. Its a very rudimentary and dated design. Other countries around the world are making wonderfully modern coinage and ours is limited to 20th century dreck. You would think we were a second rate society from our culture, with no pride and creativity whatsoever. Ruben
Dude not cool thats how my family got to America. Sorry Couldn't resist making you feel bad for like 2 seconds.
