Anyone ever seen a deep metallic greyish blue 1964 nickle? It is beautiful.

Where is the reverse photo Reaghan?
    Looks like a proof..
Most of theses proofs turn some pretty neat colors.
    Nice Nickel.

I really don’t think that is a proof. It doesn’t have any hair detail and there is a large mark on the jaw. Now I know that the coin has seen some light circulation but that wouldn’t explain the loss of detail in the hair.

The color of that coin is very common for Jefferson Nickels and is what I call “dove grey.”

I do see what you are saying about the hair. Still it would be almost undeniable if the reverse had FS.

It is absolutely stunning. It's a dark charcoal gray color that looks blue and violet.

That's a beautiful gun metal gray with a blue tint. Very nice for its age.

@Lehigh96 will catch me if I foul this up. Your nickel is a business strike. Notice the steps on the reverse. It didn't take long after first strike for the steps to clog up. Heck, the master dies at that point may have not had many steps to begin with.
I may be shooting from the hip here But I believe it is the hardest year to get 5FS, and it's the only year in the series that doesn't have an example in 6FS business strike. On the other hand it is hard to find a proof that only makes 5FS.
It's a good looking coin, is that a roll find?

The 64 is scarce in full step but the 54-S & 53-S are by far the two worst struck of the series and I believe that they are also 1 & 2 in full step rarity, though I’m not really a step collector so I typically don’t concern myself with the rarity of full steps. I don’t know about the 6FS.

I am willing to put the 64 in the top 5 of worst struck from my in hand inspections 60 to 62 had some pretty weak strikes also.

The 64 & 64-D are all over the map because of the huge mintages. My 1964 registry coin has a great strike and even better eye appeal.
