Okay, but why do they need to be reminded in the form of a pinned post at the top of the Ancients board?
I am so sorry something bad happened on a thread last night, fortunately I missed it. The moderator(s) did a timely and great job, and hope and wish all friends are well. Please stay at CT, don't let bad things have the upper hand. What means we have a scolding pinned to the top ?
This: The thread titled "Listen up !" is permanently at the top of the Ancient Coins first page. It's a locked thread, meaning no one can reply, ask questions, or interact (hence this thread). The content of the thread is a chastisement directed at the Ancient Coins posters even though apparently a large number of us had no idea what had transpired. It will stay at the top of the page, never drifting down and out of our sight. Your new threads will not appear in the first spot. That spot is reserved for this pinned post. Maybe Doug (GDJMSP) was just having a bad day and couldn't tolerate another iota of CoinTalk censoring? The Ancients board is generally very well behaved and respectful. Based on my sporadic browsing of other CT boards, we're practically angels .
I AM an angel (just don't ask my wife)! I've been under the weather the last couple of days and I didn't see the offending post and that's probably a good thing. This is the best forum on the internet without question. I can see having the "Listen Up" pinned at the top for a couple of days and then removed. Everyone have a wonderful Independence Day here in the U.S. and stay safe.
Ditto. Well-said. Time for me to step away from this forum again, as I've done before for extended periods when the anonymous moderation becomes overly heavy-handed and falls back on collective punishment. For the record, I didn't see any of this. It sounds like I would utterly despise the post in question, but I also dislike being chastised for secret reasons ("You know the rules...") by someone who doesn't sign his real-life name. Phil Davis
Thank you @TIF for your info. Now I see what it means. In my opinion, leaving it permanently "at the top of the page, never drifting down and out of our sight" seems to be a too strong decision (chastisement) about something many of us even don't have a clue what it is about. I really hope @Bing is right and it will be removed after a couple of days
That was totally uncalled for @CoinCorgi. My mother used to tell me "if you have noting nice to say, stay quiet".
Yes, in these stormy times the winds can blow into the forum and cause anger and division. I simply hope that we can maintain the qualities of fun, education, understanding, respect and empathy as we go about posting and creating threads. We must always strive for the higher bar, with the understanding that we are all interconnected at many levels.
Not to mention Rule 2: "2 – Personal attacks are not permitted. All Coin Talk members, young, old and in between, will treat all other members with respect and be civil at all times. You are expected to act as responsible individuals, there will be no name calling or flame wars." @desertgem, @GDJMSP : Maybe 'US Coin Forum' and 'General Discussion' need a sticky pinned on the top of their page for the benefit of those who mainly hang out there but seem to like to wander over to Ancients and cause trouble?
OLD GLORY! Was last flown on a battle ship at the end of World War ll. It's been folded up and protected for many a year. Happy Independence Day to all YA'LL!
It wasn't personal in the sense that it was directed at the community as a whole. What's with all the hand wringing about Doug's "Listen up!" post? Does it really make you that uncomfortable to see a warning in your precious enclave? You do realize it isn't about you (most likely)? edited
Me too. So I reported it. This only seems to happen when people come here from outside the ancients forum. Never to talk about ancient coins, apparently. But we got the pinned admonition.
