First emigration from Norway to America

    On July 5th 1825 the sailing sloop The Restaurasjonen set sail from Stavanger with 52 people on board. She arrived in New York on October 5th.
    It is considered to be the firt organised emigration party to leave from Norway.
    The coin: 1975 circulating commemorative copper-nickel 5 Kroner, mintage 1,222,827.

    I was at the Emigration Museum near Hamar once; there was an outline of the Restauration on the floor. It was a VERY tiny ship to cross the Atlantic with that many passengers. Those were some brave souls; Norwegian Quakers, I believe.
