Does anyone know a site/link to historical prices for 1878 cc GSA's?

Ahh - my bad; missed that detail. Curious to see what you find. Wonder how much of a premium the GSA holder (or even GSA attribution on TPG) adds compared to other CC Morgans of the same year/grade/etc.

What really do you want to know? 1878 CC GSA what? PCGS - NGC - MS ????

EBay = $280.00 to $21,945.00. Lots in between.

Historical prices on ungraded 1878 cc GSA in original plastic by 5 year increments.

There's wildly different quality/grades in those sales. They aren't really all over the place.

And then factor in die pairings (VAMs). Some die pairings are far less common than others and then there is condition rarity.
I know of at least one collector that is putting together a GSA set by VAM number and I wouldn't be shocked if there were others. 1878 is a highly collected date for Morgan Dollars regardless of mint location.

Can't be done because the price on an 'ungraded' CC GSA coin would be determined by the individual seller who would also determine the coin's grade (high). The seller then puts in up at a Buy It Now price or at an auction price. There's a way to find out EBay past sales. Maybe someone can link it. I have several ungraded 78's and my asking price would be different for all. Well, good luck on your search.

It technically could be done to some extent, the reality though is that no one is going to do that extensive research and that amount of work for someone else for free. But yea even with the best efforts many prices would be missed

One problem you are going to have is that in the early years GSA holders brought no premium So THOUSANDS of the coins were broken out of the holders because they were too bulky) and prices guides did not list them separately from the non-GSA dollars. I don't know if the CDN ever gave a separate listing for GSA dollars, but if they did they started it after 1988. Probably the first place you need to research are the back issues of CDN of the Newman Numismatic Portal.

Though once it's broken out of the GSA holder and can no longer be traced to one wouldn't you agree it's no longer a GSA coin in terms of practical purposes

There are some TPG holders out there that note GSA on the label from back in the day before it became en vogue to retain the original bulky government plastic and have the TPG grade strap applied. But I'm not sure if that information is captured by the grading company.

I'm not even convinced that noting GSA on the label even matters. Anyone that has a mint state 82, 83 or 84 CC most likely has a GSA coin anyways.

The Mega Red Book is a great resource also. Good luck
