This is for people who have albums for Mercury dimes. Are there spaces for any of the overdates, doubled dies and small s varieties?
I have a Dansco album back home...and I don't have it with me to double check at the moment but I believe the answer is no. I don't remember any slots in it for any of the varieties. However, there are extra unmarked slots on the last page that you could label. I know they would be out of order...but that would work in a pinch. Edit...I just looked at one on eBay and my initial thoughts were correct. Here is a link so you can see the pages for yourself: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dansco-Mercury-...14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
Thank you very much. I was actually hoping that there were only holes for the basics-dates and mints. I'm not really into varieties.
IMO the overdates are too valuable to be placed in an album. And since they are often faked, they properly need authentication which of course means slabbing. DDOs are not listed in the Red Book so they are unlikely to have space allotted to them in an album. And I see the "small s" varieties falling into the same category as the DDOs. Although 4 are mentioned in the Red Book, only one (1945-S) is actually priced. For the album makers, I believe the Red Book rules. My first thought is that you use something like air-tites and an album appropriate for those holders (I think they exist). If this is one of your prime collections, the extra cost may be worth it. I don't know if there are blank albums with dime-sized holes in them.
The Whitman Classic Merc Dime Album (No. 9118 - The Binder Album) has spots for the 45-micro s, the 1942 2 over 1 and the 1942-D 2 over 1. Also, checked the Dansco and as said above, no varieties or micro-s.
My favorite album is the Library of Coins. They do have spaces for those varieties. Mine are just blank holes and that's ok.
Your right Victor, Library of coins has those holes. I have my set in that album. I have an extra album if anyone want's it cheap.
The Whitman 9118 (http://www.collectons.com/shop/item/3568/Whitman-Classic-Mercury-Dimes-1916-1945-Album-9118) and the Littleton LCA2 (http://www.collectons.com/shop/item/2678/Littleton-Mercury-Dimes-1916-1945-Album-LCA2) both have spots for varieties. The Dansco 7123 (http://www.collectons.com/shop/item/2005/Dansco-Mercury-Dimes-Album-7123) does not, but does have seven empty ports at the end. Hope that helps!
