I would end up paying more---for the collections I look at to buy most of the coins are low grade cirulated, and most of the coins have PVC and need a bath in Acetone. Speedy
Really? I have very few circulation coins but the 1795 cent and a few flying eagles and SLQ's I have AU IKEs and Franklins ... but you HATE Franklins Ruben
Fair. Sketch, you make a fair offer. One that both you and the seller can live with. If you profit later on, oh well, it's the American way.
haha, sounds good to me! although, I don't really plan on selling anything...unless I really don't want it. which hasn't happened yet...
I wonder what a dealer would give if she just walked into the store with a box of those coins. I bet way less than melt. At least that would be the first offer. BTW, you missed the 1916-D Walker half. If you can read '16' and 'D' on it, that'll bring quite a bit more than melt.
Hey Sketch - A quick and easy way to determine silver value is a site called www.coinflation.com They do the math for you based on current silver value. As many have already noted, some of the coins you listed do have higher value than the silver alone. Good luck.
It's impossible without a grade evaluation. I would get a complete tally, check the better dates for problems and grade them accurately, pay melt / face for the rest (whichever is appropriate). A spreadsheet like Excel is useful. Good luck !
Thanks Booner! that's really helpful. Yeah, I'm going to look at the ones I have highlighted and the ones mentioned by others, and then any other ones in good condition. I'll probably buy her pennies and mercs collectively, then just the others individually...I don't know. I would buy all of the morgans, but that could get pretty pricey! = \
sketcher, This is my advice: Do your homework and calculate a price that you would be willing to give for all of the coins, then just ask what they will take for them. If they have a price in mind and it is below your price, then buy the coins. If they don't have a price in mind, then make the offer and see what they say. Just keep in mind, if they have a price that is much lower than what you were going to offer, then give them a little more than what they want. In this way, you won't make them mad or feel ripped off and you will feel much better about being a thief! Frank
