Well, I'm finally beginning to fill in my Flavian's with a couple of "new" Titus coins. Nothing rare, nothing extraordinaire. But like I said before, my collection has been lacking in Titus coins. TITUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: IMP TITVS CAESAR VESPASIAN AVG P M, laureate head right REVERSE: TR P IX IMP XV COS VIII P P, draped throne with triangular back Struck at Rome, 80AD 3.07g, 19mm RIC 124,BMC 61, RSC 313a Show me some more Titus coins - just to give me something to shoot for, eh?
Great coin, I just have one Titus so far: Titus, A.D. 79-81 Billon Tetradrachm, 25mm, 9.3 grams, 12h EGYPT, Alexandria. Year 3 = A.D. 81 Obverse: AVTOK TITOY KAIE OVEEPAEIANOY EEB; Laureate head right. Reverse: OMO-NOIA; Homonoia seated left, holding out branch, LT in lower left field. Reference: RPC 2467; Dattari 423
That's a nice looking one Bing. Almost hard to tell where his neck ends and his head begins There is only one Titus in FFIVN and my collection. A Judea Capta. Nothing for you to shoot for since it isn't in great shape I will defer to others' coins for inspiration.
Another neat Titus @Bing! Here is one that isn't quite as well known. Titus AR Denarius, 3.31g Rome Mint, 79 - 80 AD Obv: IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG PM•; Head of Titus, laureate, bearded, r. Rev: BONVS EVEN-TVS AVGVSTI; Bonus Eventus, a naked youth, standing l., holding patera in extended r. hand and corn-ears and poppy in l. RIC 89 (C). BMC 106. RSC 25. BNC 83. Acquired from Apollo Numismatics, January 2006.
Nice addition @Bing David, That one looks familiar. Here is an early one for Titus as Augustus. RIC 20, a very rare coin. Here is another rare lefty. RIC 50. An extremely rare variant of the OP coin.First, count the palmettes then see the lituus under the triangular frame. This one is the second known. David Atherton has the other one. If you really want something to shoot for...try this one. RIC 695 [Vepasian]. This coin is the RIC plate coin. It is one of a total of 2 known.
Congratulations on another Flavian gap-filler Bing. I've shown my 2 coins of Titus many times, so I wont repeat them here.
