Any idea as to value on this http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/82...itemZ290273050214QQptZCoinsQ5fUSQ5fIndividual Also, is anyone intersted in purchasing this coin for me. The time for giving is upon us. It sure would be appreciated and the auction states that it is an affordable opportunity to own this historic pattern issue. I'll be your best friend!
It is VERY difficult to value pattern pieces because 1) there are very few examples of each so each type sells infrequently and 2) there are relatively few collectors of patterns. Per the 8th Edition of United States Pattern Coins / Experimental and Trial Pieces (Original Edition by Judd, Current Edition edited by Bowers): PF-60 = $1250 PF-63 = $2100 This book was published in 2003 so the prices are 5 years out of date (if they were ever accurate is another matter).
Thanks Hobo. MAybe my $20 bid will work, but I doubt it. The auction co. and I have different definitions of affordable.
Good luck. I have never bought a pattern piece before but I have looked at quite a few. I don't recall seeing any below $1,000 unless it was damaged or heavily circulated (e.g., 1858 Indian Head Cent patterns that circulated).
Hey thanks! It's alright that the auction is over, I'm sure I can find another coin I can't afford that u can get me.
I'll be watchin' the mail. It would be nice to get something other than a bill or junk mail. LOL Not sure how you got my addy though. I o u 1.
