    Need help in identifying this type of Steam Locomotive on this Mexican Commemorative.

    Research on my part, trying to match up a 4-6-4 configuration steam locomotive has yielded no results as of yet.

    In the early 20th century, the railways (ferrocarriles) in Yucatan were used mainly to carry freight from the plantations to the ports on the peninsula, and were not connected to the lines in the rest of the country. In the 1930's, under the Lazaro Cardenas administration, a huge infrastructure project was initiated to link the nation's railways to the isolated Ferrocarriles Unidos de Yucatan. The result, the Ferrocarril del Sureste (Southeast Railroad) was completed in 1950 and inaugurate by then-president Miguel Aleman. The event was commemorated on a 5-Peso coin of 1950

    I am hoping somebody with an eclectic mind, might be able to help ID the beautiful Locomotive.

    Sadly, this is not mine. 5 Peso 1950 Southern Railroad Reverse.jpg

    Thank you.

    Unfortunately, the Loco on the coin is a 4-6-4; I found a bunch of 4-6-2's in my searching the internet, and my own library, but no 4-6-4's.

    Somebody a year or so ago said they thought the artist created their own 4-6-4 Steam Locomotive for the Commemorative. I can see that, creating something for effect, without knowing proper configurations.

    I do not know of many Steam Locomotives that would really need a 4-wheel trailing truck with only 6 driving wheels. The 4-wheel leading truck makes sense.

    Thank you for your input.

    I'm in your position as well. A few years ago I had the opportunity to buy one of these from a dealer's foreign melt pan. However, I only realized my mistake a few months later after finding a Mexican Type album on eBay.

    I'm looking for a DANSCO Mexico Type Album. Right now I have my Mexican Type Set in cardboard holders and binder pages.

    @KarlB if I were in your position, I’d be browsing newly listed albums and folders on eBay. Sometimes if you're lucky, you can catch foreign Dansco albums for far less than what you would typically pay. However, when compared to the cost of other foreign Dansco albums the Mexico type album often sells for significantly less than other foreign type albums.

    @ddddd @KarlB
    I found something a little different
    The Southern Pacific 4-6-2 was converted to 4-6-4

    I can't answer your question but I did want to share my version of this coin. As a side note, "ferrocarril" is one of my favorite Spanish words. Two double r's. 1950 mexico 5 pesos.jpg

    I'll post mine too. I think this is one of the first slabbed coins that I purchased.
