Tough to tell through plastic, but I'm pretty sure it's graded *drool* lovely half! I'm thinking AU58.
I say AU-58. The wide-open areas of the field show more subdued luster than the protected areas, such as around the stars. This is a sign of a few fingers and thumbs handling the coin before it was put away for posterity.
Bought this one at a coin show two years ago. The seller was asking $150, so I could not get my credit card out fast enough. It is way undergraded. I agree with AU 58, as there is plenty of luster in hand. On any given day, I bet it could grade 62 or 63, as it verges on uncirculated, and is awfully close. Yes, it is a slider.
I’d pay AU 50 money any day for that coin based on the photos. In hand may be different. BtW, I received this CT at 9:50 am today and first viewed this thread after the reveal.
Late on this one. I would have guessed between 55 and 58. AU50 seems like a total knock down. This one would be interesting to send off to CAC. Would it get two gold stickers?
Or there is something we are not seeing in the photos. That much luster loss should no way ever be a slider.
For the record I never said it was a slider. I do not think it is in any regard. If it would have been labeled as MS it would definitely be market graded as it’s a technical AU. The coin did circulate and it shows on the high points. My mention of the CAC gold stickers was a joke because the consensus was that this coin is a 58 and a well respected collector said a choice 58. My comment on having two CAC stickers was meaning if this coin is a solid 58 than the coin is 3.5 grades too low. I think this coin would get a gold sticker even at 55 unless of course as mentioned there is something we are not seeing in the pictures that netted it down to 50 but I and others don’t see it.
