Nothing spectacular here at all. I been playing with coins for fifty years and have never attempted variety attribution. This is honestly my first shot. Just asking if I figured this correctly. 1878 Morgan. Maybe VF-XF range. I am seeing a seven feather, second reverse.
I think it's the 7 over 8 TF. Isn't the PAF the 1st reverse? John @messydesk can correct me if I'm wrong. ~ Chris
From what I was reading when I was doing my little exercise... First reverse is eight tail feathers. Second reverse is seven tail feathers with straight arrow feathers. Third reverse is seven tail feathers with angled arrow feathers. What does PAF stand for?
Correct. The shorthand in the VAM book used for the reverses is A, B, and C for the first (8TF), second (7TF parallel arrow feathers/flat breast), and third (7TF slanted arrow feathers (SAF)/round breast). The fourth reverse, which is never called that, is the 1921 reverse.
