Odd. As a technical grader I'm normally the one that posts the lower grades. Looking at this coin several times BEFORE I looked at others' opinions I came up with MS-63 with a shot at -64.
I'm confused by the AU grades. True, the obverse shows considerable chatter, but I'm not sure that really equates to wear severe enough to knock it down to AU. I'm with MS61. (inb4 OP surprises us all with an astounding MS66+)
I'm thinking 62, but I haven't really kept up on my Morgan grading since I sold my collection about 7-8 years ago. ~ Chris
Well, to my very un-expert opinion.... this area circled in red seems to have a break in luster and looks like slight wear to me. But weak strikes definitely trick me. It’s hard without being able to rotate the coin.
Look at the fields. I see wear marks that are not typical bag marks on the obverse. I almost said AU details, because of marks that looked slightly like cleaning on the obverse fields. I think they are wear, as they are not concentric, like cleaning marks.
I'm thinking 58, but if the TPG was feeling it on that day. a 62, only cuz 60/61 seem to be pretty uncommon grades.
I don't see actual wear. But the light marks that we see don't resemble bagmarks. They more resemble what light circulation might cause I vote AU-58 based on that.
Obverse photo makes it look cleaned and retoned to my eye, but from the way things are worded and the way the discussion's gone, I guess I'm wrong.
