Recieved this in change at my local post office yesterday. Our Post Mistress saves all of the "funny looking coins" for me. On another note, I bought a bag of wheats from one of our CT members. I never imagined what fun it could be going through a bunch of cents. My Wife daughter and I sit for hours looking for those elusive wheat cents that will fill out our album. Maybe even one or two repeats we can move to pay for the Mammoth Dig planned for this summer. What a great way to bond with the family. I wish everyone had the chance to try this at least once. We will be posting pics of anything good that pops out.
What a great find I am assuming that it came from a customer at the post office? 1914 and still in circulation :thumb:
Bet your heart skipped a beat while you checked out the mintmark too. The other day I bought a box of cents at the bank and got another 1909 and a 1910. That box had 18 wheats in it, it was great. Today only 5 wheats, all '40's or 50's. The 1909 is the second of that date I have gotten in two months.
Boxes of cents are 2500 cents in 50 rolls. I buy 1-2 a week and usually come up with 10-20 or so wheats. Yesterdays box was an exception, only 5 wheats. The primary purpose is to get the 1959-1982 cents and save them.
I would be hoping that there wasn't a line behind me and then asking Ms Postal lady there if time U could go through her drawer and look for more gems. What a find! How could that have slipped through all the collectors of the world? Bet somebody dumped somebody's collection that they inherited without knowing its value.
