Leave it alone, unless you are interested in seeing how far from ANA and their own grading standards they are willing to go. I already see an overgraded coin. But that is market grading for ya.
It used to be an Anacs MS 65, so PCGS was actually conservative. In general, I'd say don't cross. Whether there is merit or not, people will pay more for it as a PCGS + CAC toner, so crossing it won't increase the price. Plus both companies tend to be stricter when dealing with cross overs from the other (meaning they might not even cross it or only at a lower grade). Cracking it out would give it a more fair look, but again I don't see the point unless it comes back MS 65 star (which is no certainty).
What generation of Anacs is the slab? Was it previously sent in as a crack out? Or, a cross? Either way a plus or star would not be out of bounds but 65 +/* would be IMO. My opinion only. Both top tier companys believe they are above reproach so it wouln't suprise me to see it in a higher graded slab.
Leave it alone. What are you looking for? An upgrade to 65? Not worth it. A star for color? It does not need it, as it has beautiful toning. Don’t waste your money.
You got that right, why beat a dead horse especially if it's going to cost more money?!! It's already got a solid grade, just sayin'!
Most of the money of this coin is driven by the color, not the assigned grade. Yes, I understand that many people determine the toning premium by multiplying the assigned grade, but others simply just pay up for a coin that appeals to them. It isn't a lock for MS65 anyway, I think you are better off leaving it in PCGS MS64 CAC.
I agree that the color drives the price here and it's not a lock for MS 65. However, there does seem to be a difference at certain grades when it comes to toners. And the "gem" grade of MS 65 is one of those where I've seen prices start to increase at a higher rate (part of the reason is that some set the cut off for what they collect at that level).
No no and no. Pcgs cac is by far the best way. I’m seeing ngc holders bringing considerably less anymore. Even with a starc
Agreed with the consensus, looks great where it is. People would pay bonkers money for it just the way it is, sure those same people would pay slightly crazier money if it were 65 CAC, but no guarantees it gets there and not a gamble not worth taking. And if/when it ever comes time to sell, if I were you I would just set a price in your mind of what you’d like for it at 64 CAC, then imagine what you’d ask for it if it were 65 CAC, ask the latter price and be patient.
