I can see Die Deterioration doubling on the date.
It's just a worn die strike. Not a Doubled die variety.

    Ear looks normal to me.

Never the less, it is in pretty pristine condition for it's age.

Nice looking for a zinc considering the age. Not a Doubled ear and struck from a worn die. In several places you can see the copper looks wrinkled but that's common.

In 50 or so years from now just imagine how these zinc pennies are going to look. I get shield pennies in my daily change that look just absolutely atrocious, and that's just in general circulation. They don't age too well out in general circulation.

Not in circulation they don't but this Cent is in nice shape. It really hasn't circulated very much. It's already 37 years old.

    There's a 'hit' at the P L of Pluribus,
a contract mark at the R, and another contact mark art the B.

    (the 1996-D above)

That's normal. Just watch all Zinc Cents and you'll see it all the time. It's a weak spot in the design.

I think there is a slight bubble and perhaps the beginning of some zinc rot (corrosion) in the D of the 83 D.
