For a while now I have wanted a Denarius of Vespasian from another mint & not too long ago Prafectus listed this coin on their new stock and not even a few minutes passed that I bought it.

Other than being from the Antioch mint, I also bought it because I have always wanted a coin with the "die guide" that @dougsmit has shared on a few of his coins over the years.

So this coin knocks out two wants in one purchase.

Nice example of the type! The engraver's guide circle is indeed a neat bonus.

Marvelous, Mat! I love the engraver's registration line and hope to get a coin showing one someday.

Very nice, Mat! There's just something about those coins minted away from Rome that gives them a lil je ne sais pas! Great new coin! And those lines... Killer!

Nice coin Mat! Seems like there is a lot of interest in Flavians all of a sudden.

Here's a Domitian with engravers line. Official from a novice engraver or an ancient counterfeit?

Stylistically this coin resembles some others of this type but without the legend errors. The fabric is similar to those from Antioch. Is this an ancient imitation or perhaps an apprentice cut the legend? Or is it an unknown type from Antioch?

Wow - I go with the apprentice.. super cool.
Some good evidence exists that legends were not cut by the portrait artist (as I am sure you know).
I think a good subject for a thread on its own!

Nicely done, @Mat. I don’t have much in the way of the Flavians but I certainly could go down that path easily. I am unfamiliar with the die guide lines. I must have missed those posts. Fascinating stuff and on an attractive coin to boot.
