Denarius of Titus as Caesar mint of Ephesus. Obv. Head right laureate Rv. AVG Star and Annulet below All within wreath. RIC 3.26 grms 18 mm
My annulet coin is marked on the obverse. I am fond of Flavian mintmarked coins but have very few. I seem to have a fondness for well worn Flavians and am not concerned with rarities caused by minor legend changes. Whe I bought it, I did not know that two little piggies was a recognized variation. More Titus commoners: I do however want to upgrade this one which needs a more clear subtractive TRP IX. All my others are TRP VIIII.
My RIC 1459 is the variant without annulet. Titus as Caesar [Vespasian] AR Denarius, 2.93g Ephesus mint, 74 AD Obv: IMP T CAESAR COS III; Head of Titus, laureate, bearded, r. Rev: AVG and star in oak wreath RIC 1459 (R2). BMC plate 17.6. RSC 21. RPC 855 (2 spec.). BNC 369. Ex Gemini IX, 8 January 2012, Harry N. Sneh Collection, lot 428. Acquired from Freeman and Sear, 2010 (A. Lynn Collection). Ex Gorny and Mosch 126, 14 October 2003, lot 2353. However, I have a RIC 1469 that is an obverse die match with your coin. Significantly, the reverse also has an annulet. Titus as Caesar [Vespasian] AR Denarius, 2.74g Ephesus mint, 74 AD Obv: IMP T CAESAR COS III; Head of Titus, laureate, bearded, r., annulet at tip of bust Rev: CONCORDIA AVG; Ceres std. l., on ornate high-backed chair, with corn ears and poppy and cornucopiae; below throne, annulet; in exergue, star RIC 1469 (R2). BMC 477. RSC -. RPC 856 var. BNC -. Ex Gemini IX, 8 January 2012, Harry N. Sneh Collection, lot 429 BTW, your coin is 1467A in the unpublished Flavian RIC II.1 Addenda.
Good luck with the hunt, @Bing ! Flavian coins seem to be in high demand Here are mine two coins of Titus:
Not only do I collect Flavians but it seems I also collect coins that once belonged to Terence. I have several Flavians from his collection including this one: T CAES IMP VESP PON TR POT Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. CONCORDIA AVGVSTI. Concordia seated left on throne, holding patera. Antioch, 72-73 AD 3.42g RIC² 1560 (Vespasian)(R2); RPC II 1932 (5 spec.); RSC 44. Ex-TC collection; ex-Tom Vossen Thanks Terence!
