    Hi Chip! Both. We have a detecting club so we try to see who can detect the oldest or best coin possible. With this 1861 I'm tied with one of my buddies with a 1861 Cent he found about a week ago.

    @lordmarcovan
    You recently asked me if I have found a Seated?
    Earlier this year I found this 1861 and created a thread for it ;)

    Edit- whoops! Somehow I managed to overlook the title for this thread, huh? Stuff like that happens when I'm reading in "distracted" mode- which is most of the time. :facepalm::rolleyes:

    Wow, cool! Talk about a pivotal date in US history, huh? I dug an 1862 dime on an old plantation site here on St. Simons Island, GA, along with some Civil War relics dropped by black troops of the 54th Massachusetts when they occupied the Island in 1862-63. I suspect my 1862 dime find was lost later than that year, though, since it was relatively worn. I also dug an 1873 Shield nickel nearby (my first and only Shield nickel find). A couple of half dimes were an adjacent lawn.

    Hey, Paddy:

    I haven't found anything good lately.

    Just junk.

    Wanna meet up?

    I am in Nassau.
