Was passing thru an apartment parking lot to access a public right of way, and I saw a bunch of garbage bags piled and opened next to some overstuffed dumpsters. The bags had clothing and other household goods thrown into it, and my guess was that some homeless people had ruffled thru them. I noticed the Hawaiian Host box underneath one of the dumpsters, and picked it up. Interesting old design, so I stuffed it into my messenger bag and walked off. Come home, unload the box out, and I realize that the box has something in it. Guess what was inside.... Japanese Invasion Money!! Meh. I go thru them and look.
I have no idea what they are, but if i was you i would move to that country seems like your a rich man with all that money.i think you MAY HAVE SOME SERIOUS VALUE THERE Jazzcoins joe:thumb:
Too bad the Philippines reevaulated their currency a couple of times since WWII. But regardless, AWESOME FIND! Regardless of value, the excitement must be a great feeling. Heck, I get excited when I find a regular old dime!
Great find! The Philippines emergency currency is listed in the World Paper Money specialized issues catalog. Lou
Simply amazing. First, someone stupid enough to throw this out... perhaps they thought it was simply some old food, but still... Then, along you come and not only do you find this pile, but you pick up what was likely the only thing that would have numismatic value (though I'd go back to see for sure), which is of particular interest to you. Carl Jung called this Synchronicity. Coincidence with meaning. You've stumbled into a great big vat of it! - Congratulations on the find!:thumb:
Or you wonder that someone threw someones collection out not knowing what it was. At any rate a neat find. There seems to be quite an assortment of various items there.
That's an amazing find. Just think, if the box had not be interesting to you all those notes would be in a landfill somewhere. And no one would have ever known.
Thats what I was thinking. Just seems like too much of a good thing to be not related to something shady. Better to be safe than sorry. Guy~
It could have been an eviction. With all the foreclosures people are being evicted every day. Just the other day our local paper had a front page article about how the police assist in foreclosures. According to the article, anything "that could sell for at least a dollar in a yard sale" is placed in the front yard. Everything else (i.e., the worthless stuff) is thrown into a dumpster. That box probably looked worthless to the people hired to do the eviction. (Keep in mind they don't have time to examine every item in a house to see if something valuable is hidden away. It should be expected the occupant would take care of those kinds of valuables, especially when they have ample warning of an upcoming eviction.)
The Apt. complex i used to work at would have the cops come to evict. They brought garbage bags and set them on the counter. One big swipe of all the dishes would fill the bags. Most of the dishes would end up broken. Couches thrown off balconies and whatnot. Bags placed out front and it is legal to take whatever u want. It's not pretty. In Lansing, slumlords just take the front door off! What doesn't get looted, isn't any good.
