Hey guys, Here's another toned Morgan that I want a second opinion on. It looks genuine but there is a lot of blue and purple, so I am a bit suspicious. Also, the toning wraps around the letters like real toning. Thanks for any input!
Authentic toning, but it was done manually in a short period of time. Most likely, sulphur and canvas in a damp room for 5 months by a numismatic "scientist." If it were graded it would get QC.
I've never seen that color progression on a crescent toned Morgan Dollar before. The coin has both indicators of AT & NT, but it is a banged up common date, and if you have any reservation, it is better to move on.
Whatever it might, and I think that it has been “helped,” I don’t find it attractive and worthy of a premium price. The darkest colors have gone too far and have damaged the luster. Toners that bring the big bucks have a lot of luster coming through bright colors.
It looks like some end of roll toning to me. Looks like the progression is getting a little too far though.
This is not one of those coins that you ask about opinions here, buy on eBay, and try to mark up with a premium to make some quick money. No. Just no.
