Just got this one in the mail, was wondering my friends over in Cointalk would think of it! Tell me what you think it should be graded, and I'll tell you what it was graded! Go easy on the picture-quality bashing, this is as good as it gets (and indeed, I'm quite impressed with myself on how well they turned out)! :hail: The little dust-bumpy things on the obverse are on the slab, not the coin, so maybe that'll help you with your guess = ) Thanks! Peter
I need to see the steps and windows but it seems to be OFF center, DCAM, I see one hit on the field behind Jefferson, maybe PF 67 Ruben
1979-S, type I, PR-69 DCAM (could be PR-68 because of the black spot on the obverse) in an NGC holder.
To me it looks like a hit, from what I am seeing it appears that the rim is dinged in towards the design, from here it looks like you can see the luster kind of "curve in" just at the top of the damage. Could also be a shadow too!
It's not off center. It's the angle of the pic. The upper edge of the holder blocks the bottom portion of the rim.
yeah, sorry I didn't clarify that, it's just the angle. Allright, I guess I can reveal that it is (as borgovan so astutely said) a type I, DCAM, but it's in a National Numismatic Certification slab as a PR-70. I know, I know, go figure. The real reason that I posted this, I suppose, was to see what you guys think it SHOULD be, not what it is. 'Cause I know these things are overgraded every day....
LOL! You forgot the incentive for the poor fella to overgrade because it would be obvious to even a chimp they overgrade! Proof-68 = shock Proof 70 = No Shock Your Pick!
I think you're sticking your hands into a bag of bad bananas. It has been clinically proven that a monkey, given a typewriter, cannot consistently type: PF70 a thousand times in a row.
that is a misaligned die without a doubt and off about 5 percent. look at the upper rim on the obverse it appears to be doubled. i have one like thi s and it does'nt mater if it's a proof these errors occur on them also. i just don;t know why the grading company didn;t see it maybe because it's a minor alignment Jazzcoins joe:whistle:
Unfortunately it is the unaware consumer that normally gets the SHOCK when it is discovered the PF70 coin they paid $$ for is at very best a 69 but most likely even lower.
