Anybody here have an idea of what happened to this coin? Notice the center of the numbers in the date are flattened a little as well. Mike

Can't hit link paddy (browser throwin' fits ATM) . And that sure don't look like pmd ..........................
"Interesting extra metal struck into the date of a 1953 Canadian Cent"? All I'm seeing is what appears to be a 1962 cent with a chip or PMD. What did I miss?
Nothing it is an 1962 not a 53 Canadian cent with for the 3rd post and confirmed by others its PMD! Canadian coins list items such as die chips, and other items as varieties....and for the most part they arent. They talk about a hanging 2 its a 2 where the clash makes it look like its hanging . It isnt...its a clash. Now im not knocking our northern friends but what is considered to be special up there..Isnt down here. And if you go onto coinsand canada. You'll notice they call machine doubling it doubling and reclassify MD as what we would believe to be a doubled die.
