I may be way off. The photo seems slightly out of focus so it’s hard to make out the details in the hair and feathers. Looks like some wear on the eagles back and wing. I’ll guess 55. If its not circulated at all than I would go low MS.
The photo made it a hard call between AU 55 and MS 62 .... I'll go with my first impression that there is wear and it's a 55.
This coin has a backstory also. Not as wild as the $32,000 1882s, but this coin I own. I bought it in an NGC holder, and submitted it to PCGS to cross, with TruView. I had wanted to keep a library of TruView pics for some of my favorite coins, but gave up on that project.
OK, the full story. As I said, I bought it a while ago, in an NGC fatty holder, graded MS 62. Since it is a high relief coin, I never was certain how much of the weak looking hair was a weak strike (1921 Peace Dollars can have weak strikes, and it looks mushy on a high relief coin), and how much was circulation rub. So, I figured it was a slider, and low grade MS. As I said, later on, I bought a few Morgans, and Peace Dollars that had Truviews, and figured I might get them altogether, and create a TruView album for myself, on my computer. It was an interesting collection sightlight. So, given that the 1921 is one of 3 key dates in the Peace series (1928, and 1934s are the others, for those who are not familiar with a Peace Dollar collection), I sent it off, for cross, and TruView. I was going on vacation, and had my mail held, so I was in a rush. Stupidly, I forgot to specify “cross at same grade or above” with the submission. My bad, as you will see. I get back from vacation, and have my mail delivered. Well, I get my PCGS package with 6 coins submitted, and this is what greets me: At any way, I uttered several unprintable words, beginning with F, S, etc. PCGS thought my coin was circulated, making it a slider. After calming down, I took a good look, and realized that they were correct—the hair shows softness that is most likely rub. NGC was probably wrong, as it was not MS, or one could look at that softness as strike weakness. At any rate, once calmed down, I accepted the coin for what it is, and realized my mistake. End of TruView crossover project! So, anybody guessing mid to high AU, and low MS were both right!
I said 55 but on a good day 58. I know but forgot that a Peace 1921 is high relief so I'm glad that gave you a 58. It was a good day.
