Of course the price jumps and it should be a big one but why take the chance? The price dropped considerably from a 67 to a 66. If I purchased a 67, I'd leave it be and be happy.
I would have sent the NGC to CAC. A green bean would have meant its pretty much a 67+. If it got the gold bean it would be staying in that 67 slab for certain.
I would buy a coin with that combination far sooner than a cross graded PCGS coin. Once again, NGC has so many of the beautiful coins lately.
I would have left it in the NGC holder. I'm not a fan of this constant cross over stuff. I also stopped collecting US and collect world coins now, far less worry about this cac, cross grade, making money, upgrade, etc and actually enjoy the coin I have my world coins in both holders and just leave them be.
This is why I tend to buy raw coins. Buy the coin, not the holder, so if I like the coin, I buy it. I'm not in this hobby to get rich by artificially bumping up the price because some TPG thinks it is high grade.
Not a fan of the crackout game as it has its risks. While I have both NGC and PCGS in inventory my NGC coins are just fine where they are and I would not discount them bc of the holder as no real basis for such exists in the CDN except for some ultra high grade issues - bluesheet. In an ultra high grade like 67 it’s always a push. I play the crackout game to win, not tie or lose. Blue sheet bid for this issue for both TPG is $300 so I see no reason to try cross this issue in the first place. Now you have a coin in 66 where CDN GS bid is 105 vs 340 for MS67. Don’t listen to the koolaid drinking pundits, it’s not their money on the line. Just take the loss as tuition and move on.
For most, yes but why take the risk? In this case he's out a lot of money. I can't afford loses like that.
UNLESS you were 100% sure it would regrade higher why would you do it. You are asking TPG to regrade a coin graded by a competitor, IT IS SUBJECTIVE and he could look at it and say overgraded, and you are the recipient of his opinion. It is a beautiful coin and would be welcome in any set at 67. Semper Fi
