First time poster here, I would like to offer my first submission as this possibly error'd coin. I searched High and Low and the closest thing I found was a similar coin posted by a user which seemed to be scratched off. In this picture it's definitely missing and hoping to get some feedback!! Thank you!
Welcome to. CoinTalk. When showing a coin you should remove it from the 2x2. Also, you should always show both sides. Looks to be a simple debris filled die issue. The numeral 1 had compacted debris on the Die and did not allow the number to form properly when it struck the blank planchet.
Ah yes, 949 was a good year. LOL Welcome to CT @MarcoPolo84. As @paddyman98 stated, it appears to be a grease fill die that prevented the 1 from forming.
Awesome, thank you every one for the kind words. My father in law also has a double sided US quarter with tails on each end. Based on my Google research there has been only 3 known in existence, I will take a pic of it next time I go see him but removing it from the plastic might be more difficult for convincing hehe.
Welcome to CT, nice picture. Compacted grease or other debris filled the cavity in the die where the 1 should have been, resulting in what many call a "greaser".
