Needless to say, that particular hole in my Whitman Type Set will likely remain empty for many years yet to come, given my somewhat limited resources.
That does appear to be an NC-11! According to the 1st edition Mega Redbook, there are four die marriages with that obverse die: NC-8, S-25, S-26, and NC-11. The position/proximity of the leaf under the second S in STATES eliminates NC-8, the positions of the berries relative to the left ribbon loop eliminates S-25, and the overall shape of the ribbon eliminates S-26. This leaves NC-11 as the only option, and pickup points like the berries appear to match, which convinces me that it’s NC-11. That’s a remarkable find, and probably the rarest coin I’ve seen posted on this forum! Was it a cherrypick?
I concur that it is indeed NC-11. The two berries over the the leaf pair next to D rule out NC-8 and S-26. The branch stem appears to be pointing down the diagonal of A2 in AMERICA, whereas on S-25 it points to the left of A. The leaf tip is almost touching T1 of STATES on NC-11, and that’s what I see here. Now where the heck did you find this??? It’s probably a $10,000 coin. Edit, found it. About a month before I got back to trolling eBay again. Great find! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/164155496750
Lurking here but gotta ask, because I'm amazed-- you got this $10K coin for approximately $370, because nobody else on ebay for that entire week (including the seller) knew its value?
Incredible find! 4 known, now 5 if I'm not mistaken? F15 detail, net ag3 to g4. That is a very valuable coin (approx. $12K per C.Q.R).
Interesting... the seller is from Saint Raymond, a small town in Quebec, Canada. It seems that a number of new Large Cents finds are lurking outside the US. Marvelous cherry-pick. I have not searched for Large Cents on eBay since the early days, probably 15-20 years ago. This find could change things.
If memory serves, we had a poster years ago that had found a very nice 1793 cent in a coffee can in his dad's shed in England after his dad had died!!!
Exceptionnal find, indeed I had to google a bit to understand what exactly it was about (I'm not familiar with those), and eventually found an article reporting a fifth specimen in 2012. That would mean this one being the sixth https://www.coinworld.com/news/precious-metals/large-cent-specialist-reports-fifth-nc-11-179.html Q
