I have to share this. I have wanted one of these for a long time. Can you guess the grade? It is in an NGC holder and I'll take photos of the reverse tonight. Very best regards, collect89
That is a very nice coin! congratulations. I have always wanted to have one of those, in the 8 or 2 reales denomination. I would say your coin is very very close to Mint State. Nice! Eduard
Country of Central America 1823-1840 Hello Ruben, I believe that the country named “Federal Republic of Central America” existed from 1823 to 1840. It was intended to be a republic modeled after the United States of America. This country of “Central America” covered much of Central America, including what is now Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Mexican state of Chiapas. Having an 1824 Central America coin is historically a little like having a USA coin from 1797. Very best regards, collect89
It was a confederation of the former provinces of Guatemala that where governed by Spain and then became independent from Spain. The confederation consisted of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. From 1823 to 1839. Lou
Very nice coin, thanks for posting. A bit, yes, but in the end the Federal Republic of Central America dissolved after years of internal conflict. It formed again later in the century and dissolved a second time, into the countries Collect89 mentions, and losing Chiapas to Mexico.
more photos for your opinions Here are photos of the reverse & I appreciate your opinions & grades. It is interesting that just around the tree, the surface appears rough like the original unstruck planchet. The tree is pretty well stuck up & all around the perimeter, there is very nice luster and very good strike. Tuesday afternoon I should post the NGC slab & grade. Very best regards, collect89
NGC opinion AU55 NGC's opinion was AU55. I think the grade is about right. Very best regards, collect89
Try these search words: Central America Costa Rica Republic of Central America I suspect that the dates 1823 to 1849 would be of interest to you. There are similar designs on later coins from Costa Rica. The 2 R denomination is more difficult to find in high grade than the 8 R. Very best regards, collect89
