i'm new to this forums and new to coin collecting. i have made several purchases from ebay including 63 and 64 proof sets, 2005 silver american eagle, and some other small pruchases. nothing big yet, but i hope to obtained a beautiful american gold eagle soon. i am collecting purely for fun and not as any "investments". i have found a nickel in my 1964 proof set, which looks like it's a cameo? here's picture:
EBay can be a great place to buy coins, but it can also be a great place to get ripped off. I would suggest that, if possible, you try to find a good coin dealer near you and start doing business occasionally with them. You will learn a lot, and they will probably help out a new collector, maybe even giving some good deals.
Howdy vision - Welcome to the Forum !! Based on the pic I don't think the nickel would make the cameo designation. It does show some of the cameo effect, but it would have tobe more pronounced for it to be called a cameo. After you look at a lot of coins, you'll catch on to which ones are and which ones are not. It just takes practice
I don't believe it would get the full blown designation of cameo... Although, had the reverse shown more than what it does, I'd go for cameo.
WELCOME!!! Hope you like it here!!! I have to agree that the coin is not CAMEO but almost...the OVD looks like it has more CAMEO than the REV. Speedy
Great to have a new collector among us here at the forum. Sounds as if you have a good start, and if you listen to either JBK or GDJMSP, you can't go wrong.
Remember that little tip about using Google ? Well you could see more pics of cameo coins in about 5 minutes than I could explain to you in 5 hrs.
