It's not quite a Morgan...anyone know what it is? Bonus points awarded in addition to guessing the grade.
Whipple dollar. Some sort of store card or token. Circa pre 1900. Made of gilt bronze. HK-832 to be exact. As for grade? I’ll guess 63 just because of the spots.
I have noticed that quite a few of these have spots (likely caused by a combination of the composition and storage methods). I personally subtract for spots (at least when they are egregious) , but I've seen the TPGs be mixed as to how they treat spots.
After looking around online at these this one seems like a supreme example in terms of eye appeal. Not sure if it’s been cleaned as there is no evidence. The one I found on HA was back in 2007 but at the time had an NGC census of 6 in 63 with only 2 grading higher.
They are interesting and for anyone that wants a quick description, take a look here: https://www.so-calleddollars.com/Events/Whipple_Dollar.html
Well dang it.... now I gotta look it up too.... I had my money on the foil coin pressings. There was a cool thread about those a week or so ago.
See the link in the post above yours. It isn't one of those foil pressings but I do see some similarities (from just looking at the picture).
