I’ve been reading the interesting comments on this thread and now have a better understanding of where I can post some of my—non-coin—yet historic and numismatically related items. I have a collection of Japanese military medals that I will be posting soon. I read the term “exonumia” and searched the CoinTalk site for such a thread. I found this one entitled: Let’s see your exonumia!” at:

Looks like my attempts to sell my $20 Confederate bill are doomed.
Oh well, it was free with a coin collection I bought 3 years ago. The 89 yo owner didn’t think it was real. Turned out he was incorrect

So in other words, a net win!

Not sure I am following your logic...there is a market for your item. Like most things, condition, rarity and demand will drive the sale price.

@Randy Abercrombie, heal well, my friend. For what it's worth, I seldom use a ladder without someone holding the bottom. And I just recently bought a new shorter stepladder with WIDE steps and a support bar at the top; getting rid of the old one with narrow steps. Had a friend, now deceased, who died in his garage because of a ladder fall.

Had to go back and look at it. Seems it’s a $5 note.
Things got real when I received a death threat after posting it on Craigslist last winter. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/confederate-5-fake.341691/

I collect war trophies and will eventually publish a book of war period coins; stamps; photographs and military equipment. The perpetually offended among us will never have skin in the game and will never put their life on the line for others. Given that fact I spend less than no time worrying about what they think.
    Their threats are extremely amusing.

Just looked at the link and I responded in that thread. It's real. It has folds, its stained, maybe pinholes, a tight cut on the left edge and cut above the line on the bottom. These were hand cut and they're not perfect. It lowers the value but look at it, it's a beautiful bill. You should be proud to own it.

The Hitler Youth pin has rust so it is iron and therefore magnetic. With the Hitler Youth one must remember that unlike our scouting groups it was used to separate children from their parents especially if the parents were not rabid Nazis. It was the first step in a process of developing cannon fodder for the Fuhrer. By the end of the war the HY kids as young as 12 were drafted into the home defense forces and expected to die for the Father land. This pin has a lot of history that should never be forgotten.

I think this could be considered exonumia.

And you'll notice that was in Coin Chat. Most people on CT aren't THAT sensitive about where you post something (with some exceptions) except so that you can get best answers.

Sad but true. My father was on patrol one day in Germany toward the end of the WW II and found a young boy in uniform, dead, hanging on a fence. He said he was so young he hadn't even started to shave.

As I stated earlier, I accidentally hit the coin form as that's what I usually hit. I believed it was moved. Not the first mistake I've made and it won't be the last.

I agree, my father was in Berlin WWII and brought back pictures and on his dog tags he had two rings without the jewels in them. When I see these photo's makes me sad too.

Possibly but if a pin, then not really a medal or token...would be like a Masonic pin or Rotary Club pin, albeit much more sinister...

I was just thinking what it would have been if we had to have landings on the Japanese mainland. The Japanese were so isolated, no invading soldiers had been marching across their land, and many had no real idea of how the war was going. I think you would have seen a lot of young "soldiers".
